Recites crown lease of alum mines to Sir Paul Pyndar of London, baronet. and William Turner of London esquire for 12 years at rent of £11000 per annum, 12 May 1627. The works were to be left at end of term with sufficient pans etc to make 1800 tons of alum yearly, and with stock of 2300 chaldrons of coal, of which 300 chaldrons were to be delivered at such alum houses in Yorkshire as might be directed and the rest at the waterside near the alum works; 20 tons of urine to be left for every 15 pans; and sufficient calcined mine to keep the alum houses in full work for 3 months to make 450 tons of alum.

He is to make 1800 tons of alum per year, on penalty of £16 for every ton short of 800 tons to be delivered for sale at home (“home vent”) and 100 tons for sale in Ireland, and £4 for every ton short of the remainder delivered for sale abroad. The alum is to be delivered to Burlamachi’s storehouse at Coatham and Whitby. Every ton to contain 20 cwt of 113 lbs each.
