TitleLetter from John Dundas (Edinburgh) to Sir Lawrence Dundas
DescriptionHas paid Sir Lawrence's order for payment of feu duties to the City Chamberlain. The council would be unwilting to accede to his request to waive interest, because although amount is small in his own case, the total involved would be very large.Has discussed Sir Lawrence's political position with Mr Mason, who is very worried...At first 'almost all the people that ever I heard speak on the subject of your showing yourself independent approved of it, particularly when they were assured you was not an opposition man for the sake of opposition nor an enemy to the Kings measures'... but Mr Hunter Blair shook his head and said 'If Sir Lawrence does not vote for the continuance of the American war, or goes on to oppose the ministry I don't know what may be the consequences here'
