Latter spent about £5000 on election, while it has cost Sir Lawrence less than £300 'exclusive of the expenses attending my living here'. 'You should immediately make a point with Lord North that the Crown's servants in this country should not be permitted to act as agents against me while I am supporting your interest here'. 'This struggle has hurt my spirits and constitution more than anything I undertook in my life...I...beg...that I may be allowed to remain in Yorkshire this winter...for God's sake exert yourself in getting Hotchki's son out as surgeon to India. I can assure you much depends on it'.
