| Administrative history | This Act in 1788 "for the better securing the rights of persons qualified to vote" (28 George III cap. 36), was otherwise called "Lord Stanhope's Bill". Registers were to be distributed by the Clerk of the Peace and returned to him for enrolment and preservation in the records. The Freeholders Register Act was repealed in 1789 (29 George III cap. 18) and comparatively little was achieved by it. |
