These documents show the running accounts of these ships, together with letters from their masters. Section 2/11 gives an idea of the cost of building a sloop. There are also documents showing the cost of alum, letters numbered 3/1/27 and 3/1/42. Some idea of freight charges to independent businessmen in 3/1/20 and other letters, is also given. The letters in section 3/1 also give some of the depots for alum. The vouchers contain mainly bills for food and port charges. “Peggy” was shipwrecked, the value of what was left is given in section 1/6. Other freight charges are shown in section 1/1 and 1/2 : these include the freight charges for coal and alum. Several letters in 3/1 show that alum was in short supply during the period 1804 -1805.
