TitleCleveland ironstone mining map
DescriptionAn ironstone mining map of Cleveland. Prepared by Stanfords from 8 sheets of the 6 inch O.S. map of 1856. Extends from Thornaby-Mandale-Maltby on west to Goldsbrough-Barnby-Kettleness on east, and from the latitude of Nunthorpe-Guisborough-Moor-Mickleby on south to Redcar on north. Tinted and lettered with geological features of the ironstone beds, names of owners etc Also marked "New Banks" and "Intended Banks" on saltings west of Coatham, and bears a pencilled plan and note re proposed harbour of refuge at Saltburn. Comprises sheets 6, 7, 8, 9 of 1856 map together with the 4 sheets adjoining them on south, reference numbers cut off. Paper 50 × 144.50 ins, no rollers. Scale 6 ins to 1 mile.
