Administrative historyThe Consett family appear first in North Cleveland and Teesside, purchasing property in the 17th century in Middlesbrough and Yarm. In the 1670's Peter Consett was a 'master and mariner'. This estate seems to have been sold about the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. In the middle and late 18th century the Brawith estate began to be built up. Brawith itself was acquired through the marriage of Consett of Yarm and Peacock of Brawith in the middle of the 18th century.
