TitleRecords of prisoners appearing at the North Riding Quarter Sessions : North Riding Quarter Sessions
DescriptionThis series consists of records relating to prisoners appearing at the North Riding Quarter Sessions, including:

- manuscript and printed calendars of prisoners (with draft calendars). These are mostly "after-Sessions" calendars or lists or prisoners, with details of prisoners tried at Quarter Sessions, and their sentences and of prisoners confined in the house of correction; and some "before-trial" calendars or lists of prisoners awaiting trial, some of which have sentences added later. The bulk of the calendars, which form the most readily available record of the criminal business of Quarter Sessions, are printed, and some have been mounted in guard-books [1790-1918]

- draft orders for committal to the House of Correction and for transportation. A fair copy of these drafts was evidently transmitted to the gaoler of the House of Correction, and the drafts were probably used in the compilation of the after-Sessions calendars [1740/1-1866]
