TitleSettlement examination: Vollantina Brown
DescriptionSettlement examination of Vollantina Brown. She was born at Liverpool and her brother George Brown, who is now travelling with her, was born at Newcastle upon Tyne. She lived with her father and mother at Sunderland until about two years ago when her father died. Afterwards she went to Leeds and there got a pass to Sunderland to look for her settlement. She stayed at Sunderland for three weeks, but never asked about her settlement. She travelled from Sunderland to Whitby, and bought mint water and sold it in her travels. She arrived at Whitby last Saturday week, and went to a lodging house where she met her brother George Brown, who had been there two or three days. They both left Whitby on Friday last and got to Robin Hood's Bay on the same night. From there, they went to Scarborough on Saturday last, and were going to York when they were taken up for begging at an odd house in East Ayton
