DescriptionThis sub-series consists of returns of rateable values, including:

- returns of rateable values for 1824, made by the overseers of the poor on printed forms and arranged by townships in bundles by petty sessional divisions. These returns were exhibited and sworn at Petty Sessions but are incomplete. They give names of occupiers, description of property (for example, house and land), and annual value. There are summaries of returns giving detail of the property tax assessment of 1814 and returns of rateable values as settled.

- returns of rateable values for 1846, made by the overseers of the poor on printed forms and arranged by townships in bundles by petty sessional divisions. These returns give names of owners and occupiers, description of property (for example, house and land), annual value, and annual rateable value.

- returns of rateable values for 1859, made by the overseers of the poor on printed forms and arranged by townships in bundles by petty sessional divisions. These returns give the total rental and rateable value of each township only, with indications of types of property (for example, railways and mines), acreages (totals with types of cultivation), and the basis of rates. There are no names of owners or occupiers.

- returns of rateable values for 1865-1886, made by clerks to Boards of Guardians on printed forms and arranged by townships. These returns give the total rental and rateable value of each township only.
