- appointments by the sheriff of returning officers for the boroughs of Whitby and Thirsk (North Riding), Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield (West Riding). These appointments give the name and place of residence of officers, and has the signature of the sheriff [3 August 1832 - 13 March 1885]

Administrative historyThe oaths were deposited with the Clerk of the Peace under an Act of 1728 (2 George II cap. 24).

Under the Reform Act of 1832 (2 & 3 William IV cap. 45, s. 11) the sheriff was to nominate returning officers for parliamentary elections in certain new parliamentary boroughs. Copies of the appointments were to be sent to the Clerk of the Peace.
