DescriptionThis sub-fonds relates to records of enrolment, registration, deposit and returns. It consists of records relating to charities and charitable donations, including:

- an Act of 26 George III cap.58: requiring ministers to forward returns of charities to the Clerk of the Peace for transmission to Parliament [1786]
- a register of memorials of charitable donations: giving particulars of property, objects of charity, date of foundation, location of deeds, deeds, and names of trustees [1813-1819]
- memorials of charitable donations [c.1815-1835]
- annual statements of accounts of charities: for charities in 22 parishes, including a list of charities submitting accounts [1853-1880]

Administrative historyThe Charitable Trusts Act of 1853 (16 & 17 Victoria cap. 137) established the Charity Commissioners. It also included the provision for the deposit of annual statements of account with the Clerk of the County Court if the gross income was under £30, and with the Clerk of the Peace if over £30.
