Administrative historyRules of savings banks were deposited under an Act of 1817 (57 George III cap. 130) and later Acts. A certificate of deposit with the Clerk of the Peace enabled investment in government stock. This requirement was repealed by an Act of 1863 (26 & 27 Victoria cap. 87).
