Administrative history | West Tanfield is an ancient parish and village in the North Riding of Yorkshire situated six miles from Bedale and six and a half miles North West of Ripon. The parish lies on the north bank of the River Ure and contains the hamlets of Binsoe, Fisher's Lodge, Nosterfield and Thornbrough. St Nicholas is of unknown age but can be dated back to the 12th century. The building was restored in 1859, and the plans for this restoration can be found within this collection (reference PR/TAW/6/29). |
