| Administrative history | Bellerby was formerly a township and chapelry in the parish of Spennithorne situated around seven miles from Richmond and one and a half miles to the North of Leyburn. In 1853 Bellerby became a distinct ecclesiastical and civil parish. The church there is dedicated to St John and was built in 1873 on the site of the former chapel. The interior was restored in 1886.
