| Administrative history | The last member of the Lee family to live at Pinchinthorpe was John who died in 1836. When the family moved from the house his sister gathered what manuscripts she could find and packed them in a small trunk. Some of these documents were calendared by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society (Record Series volumes 39, 111 and 120). Those published in 1909 were described as the property of Mr RH Simpson of Great Ayton, presumably a relation of the sister who had preserved them in 1936.
Some of these were re published in 1955 when they were lent to the society by Roger Lee. The National Register of Archives (NRA) catalogued most of the papers in the 1950s. In 1961 Roger Lee began to deposit the manuscripts in the North Riding record office and after his death his executors deposited the remainder in the North Yorkshire county record office. |
