Ellen Handcock had previously been convicted of felony at the Spring Assizes held at York on 28 February 1877

With certificate of conviction at the Petty Sessional court for Langbaurgh East held at Guisborough on 24 October 1882 of Annie Handcock of Redcar, a child above the age of 7 years, for stealing a quantity of potatoes growing in a field at Redcar, the property of Miss Elizabeth Blatherwick, on 21 October 1882. Ellen Hancock, Annie's parent, was not present at the hearing. Handcock was fined 5s. Certificate dated 2 July 1883



With certificate of conviction at the Assizes and General Gaol Delivery held at the Castle of York on 28 February 1877 of Ellen Handcock for stealing two linen table cloths, one linen roller, ten linen napkins, one cotton towel, one linen window blind, two linen glass cloths, two scrubbing brushes, one clothes brush, two knives and two glass salt cellars, the property of James Rutherford, at the parish of Coatham on 1 May 1876. Handcock was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction at Northallerton for five weeks. Certificate dated 28 June 1883
