TitleLetter from Frederick Louis Jeffery pleading for leniency
DescriptionLetter from Frederick Louis Jeffery asking "your worship" to take a lenient view of his crime. After coming out of prison 12 months ago, he got work on a steamer bound for China, and came back home with a good character from the Chief Engineer. After a week or two at home, he shipped in a London steam tug up to Middlesbrough. He is not a hardened criminal, but gets into trouble when under the influence of drink. His crime was on impulse, stealing a watch from a waistcoat which had been hung up in the forecastle of a ship. He asks for one more chance, promising to endeavour to keep from drink and lead a better life
