With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions for the borough of Leeds held on 12 April 1880 of Thomas Gilling for obtaining one coat from Tom Middlebrook on 13 December 1879 by falsely pretending to Thomas Kempton that he (Gilling) had taken the Eagle Hotel at Doncaster and had £1,000 invested, and again on 15 December 1879 by falsely pretending to Middlebrook that that he (Gilling) had taken the Eagle Hotel at Doncaster. Gilling was sentenced to hard labour in the prison at Leeds for two calendar months. Certificate dated 28 December 1880
