With certificate of conviction before a Justice of the Peace for the borough of Leeds on 20 January 1872 of Ernest Cooper aged 10 years for stealing one coat and one pair of trousers value £2, the property of Matthew Johnson, at the parish of Leeds on 15 January 1872. Cooper, who appeared to be a Protestant, was sentenced to hard labour at the House of Correction for the borough of Leeds for one calendar month, and then to the Certified Reformatory School at Adel for five years starting from 19 February 1872. Certificate dated 1 October 1877
