Description | Papers relating to the diversion of a highway at Simonstone. The new highway passes on the north side of the village of Simonstone in the township of High Abbotside in the parish of Aysgarth beginning from the old highway at the east end of the village near a garth belonging to the representatives of the late John Fawcett deceased and occupied by Jane Fawcett, passing through the garth in a north-westerly direction, then westerly through a field called Hargill belonging to the representatives of the late Thomas Stuart deceased and occupied by James Moore, and westerly through three closes belonging to Lord Wharncliffe called Back Field, New Close and Rosy Pasture occupied by Mary Blades and Thomas Blades, into the old highway at the west end of the village, opposite the end of Simonstone Pasture Road. The old highway ran on the south side of the village of Simonstone between the above points at the east and west ends of the village. Includes:
- brief dated 29 June 1867 in support of the application for an order to stop-up the old road and to receive a certificate of completion for the new road
- certificate dated 29 June 1867 from two Justices that they have viewed the new highway and found it completed and in good repair
