Description | Bill of indictment of George Neish Gardner for obtaining 1s 4d from Ellen Callbrath wife of James Moore Callbrath by falsely pretending that he (Gardner) was the agent for Mr Newcomb's Club, i.e. The Northern Patriotic Life Assurance Association and Sick Benefit Company Limited, and that he was collecting money for it, claiming that it was a strong society and that it was enrolled according to statute. Gardner claimed that if James Moore Callbrath entered the club then £9 would be payable on his death, and £7 payable on Ellen Callbrath's death
