TitleMemorial relating to the need for a police station and new lock-up at Hawes
DescriptionMemorial to the chairman and Justices in Quarter Sessions from the landowners and inhabitants of the townships of Hawes and High Abbotside for a police station and lock-up to be built at Hawes because of the size of the town, the influx of people for markets and fairs, and the number of tramps and vagrants. The existing Hawes lock-up has long been disused, and is now unfit for its purpose, being a dungeon without air or light; and Hawes will increase in importance if the proposed railway line is completed
