Description | Certificate dated 29 July [sic] 1866 of G.H. Holtby physician etc at Whitby that C.A. Crigan esquire occasionally suffers from palpitations of the heart and difficulty of breathing, and should not be confined in a crowded court at this time of the year
Letter dated 2 July 1866 from John Topham to Charles Crigan of Sleights Hall near Whitby, returning the above certificate. Topham is unable to excuse Mr Crigan's attendance, as he is summoned for the Grand Jury rather than the Traverse Jury, and will only be in court for about half an hour in the early part of the morning
Note dated 4 July from Charles Crigan at Northallerton. He only received "the enclosed" late last night as has come on the first train this morning. He is suffering from an attack of neuralgia, and if his presence is not needed in court, as he hears that the Grand Jury will be dismissed this morning, then he would like to return home by the evening train, as he is far from well |
