With certificate of conviction at the Quarter Sessions held at Northallerton on 4 April 1843 of James Helmsley late of the House of Correction at Northallerton labourer for stealing one gold coin called a sovereign, eight silver coins called half-crowns, 20 silver coins called shillings and 40 silver coins called sixpences, the property of William Fairburn, at the parish of Topcliffe. Helmsley was sentenced to hard labour in the House of Correction at Northallerton for 12 calendar months. Certificate dated 2 January 1850
