Description | Bill of indictment of William Chambers late of the hamlet of Marygate labourer for obtaining by deception one loaf of bread value 6d and one bread tin value 6d, the property of William Collier. Chambers falsely pretended to Ann Collier wife of William Collier (William being employed as baker by the Guardians of the Poor of York Union) that he was an inmate of the workhouse, and falsely pretended to William Collier that he had been sent by John Grimshaw master of the York Union Workhouse for a loaf of workhouse bread (i.e. a loaf that had been sent from the workhouse to Collier to be baked)
