TitleReport concerning the repair of Skutterskelfe Bridge
DescriptionReport relating to the presentment exhibited by Marshall Fowler esquire against the inhabitants of the North Riding for not repairing Skutterskelfe Bridge. The bridge is a carriage bridge built over a rivulet called Seamer Stell in the township of Skutterskelfe, on the highway leading from Rudby to Stokesley. It was built about 69 years ago, by General Carey, the owner of Skutterskelfe Hall and estate, and has since been repaired by the owners of the estate, while the inhabitants of Skutterskelfe have repaired the roads at each end. The bridge replaced an ancient bridge sited nearer to the Hall, and when it was opened, the old road was stopped-up
With evidence from:
- John Armstrong of Stokesley bricklayer and mason aged 83 years relating to the building and maintenance of the bridge
- Mr George Brigham aged 46 years, agent to Lord Falkland, the present owner of Skutterskelfe Hall
- Mr C.D. Atkinson the acting Bridge Surveyor, relating to the state of the bridge
