Description | Settlement examination of Thomas Hodgson of Gilling. In 1812, he rented six and a half acres of tillage land from his father in law Edward Ewbank in the township of Gilling. He occupied this for two years at £16 per year, with a room to live in at a further £1 1s a year. While he was there, he never paid any poor rate. He said that he did not know which part of two fields totalling 13 acres belonged to him, but he was to have half of the crop. His settlement is at Stonegrave, if renting the land did not give him a settlement at Gilling |
