TitleBrief for the prosecutor in the case against the inhabitants of Melbecks
DescriptionBrief for the prosecutor against the inhabitants of the township of Melbecks in the parish of Grinton for not repairing a part of the highway. The prosecutor, Mr Langhorne, is a "gentleman of fortune" living at Reeth who has often complained that the road was out of repair, narrow, and dangerously adjoined a slope on one side where it was cut into the side of a steep hill. The inhabitants were indicted and have improved the state of the road, although there was a question whether or not they were liable for the road not being of sufficient breadth. The parties have now agreed that the indictment should be quashed
