TitleLetter from John Wharton at Skelton Castle relating to roads
DescriptionLetter from John Wharton at Skelton Castle to C.B. Walker attorney at law at Thirsk consenting to the discharge at the next Sessions of presentments of the road from York to Thirsk. Wharton has told Lord Downe that a road on part of his estate needs to be widened. Downe will consent to this if two magistrates, who act for the division, apply with details of places and lengths. The damage done to roads by the mail coach is very great, and they would not enjoy their exemption from tolls for long if petitions were presented to Parliament
