DescriptionPetition of Thomas Shepherd, appointed as Governor and Taskmaster at the House of Correction at Northallerton on 16 July 1799 with a salary of £70 per year. Until now, his son has acted free of charge as under-gaoler, but his son has now got married and is asking for wages. Shepherd cannot afford to pay him, unless his own salary is increased, or a separate sum is granted for the appointment of an under-gaoler
