Description | Motion paper for the Midsummer Sessions 1801 to take off an estreat and quash an indictment
On 16 October 1799 Phillis Carter charged Ralph Tweddle with being the father [of her bastard child]. Ralph Tweddle and Myton Tweddle entered into a recognizance to appear at Quarter Sessions and abide by any order made for the relief of the township of East Cowton from the maintenance of the child
On 17 January 1800 an order was made for Ralph Tweddle to pay for the lying-in of Phillis Carter and towards the maintenance of her bastard daughter
At the Midsummer Sessions 1800 Ralph Tweddle was indicted for not complying with the order, and the recognizances were estreated, although the estreat has not yet been returned into the Court of Exchequer
On 25 February 1801 Ralph Tweddle and Myton Tweddle entered into a bond with George Booth and others, churchwardens and overseers of the poor of East Cowton to pay maintenance. The estreat should therefore be taken off and the indictment quashed |
