Description | Letter from George Watson to William Wailes esquire at the Clerk of the Peace's Office at Northallerton. On about 29 "ult", he committed Milner Wilson, Thomas Mawman and James Runnell to the House of Correction at Northallerton for felony committed at New Malton. On about 10 May last, he also committed Elizabeth Hutchinson for a felony committed at New Malton, and bound the parties to prosecute at the Thirsk adjourned Sessions, as that seemed the most convenient course of action. He has heard from the constable of New Malton that the keeper of the House of Correction says he must have an order from Watson, or he must take the prisoners to Guisborough rather than Thirsk
The gaoler has written to Watson about liberating John Brough or Burgh, committed for disobeying an order of bastardy. Watson sees no reason to do this, as he has the worst opinion of Brough's course of life. If the gaoler can bring about his reform, then Brough is better where he is
Watson asks if the division of the wapentakes to each Session, and the adjournment [from Guisborough to Thirsk] is by order of Sessions |
