Description | Bill of indictment of John Stope of Brotton a constable for the township of Brotton for neglecting his office by allowing Thomas Whithead to escape from his custody
On 17 January 1734/5 Stope had received a Justice's warrant dated 16 January 1734/5 to arrest Thomas Whithead of Stainton husbandman for various misdemeanours. He arrested Whithead on 17 January 1734/5. Whithead was then committed to the House of Correction at Thirsk and delivered to Stope to take him there
