Administrative history | Clapham is a parish town six miles to the North West of Settle and formerly included the four townships of Austwick, Clapham, Newby and Lawkland. In 1879, Austwick was constituted a separate parish covering the townships of Austwick and Lawkland. The church there is now dedicated to St James although it was dedicated to St Matthew up until the late nineteenth century. Since 1919, Clapham has been part of the Diocese of Bradford, the Archdeaconry of Craven and the Deanery of Ewecross.
