Summary of case: Case papers for NRCC/CL 9/1/5191 state: ‘This man is foreman tailor in charge of all the tailoring at the Middlesbrough Branch [Stewart’s Clothiers ltd Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough] There are 10 girls under his charge and he is entirely responsible for the whole of the work. He has only been with us about 18 months having come to us to fill the place of our foreman (Clayman) who was moved to Newcastle to fill up the place of the foreman there. This man is absolutely indispensable to us and cannot be replaced. Our business consists of gent’s and Ladies’ Tailoring. We have an annual turnover of £5,000 to £6,000 at this branch. We turn out on an average 50 men’s suits per week.’ On 6 Jun 1918 appeal was granted to 1 Dec 1918 with leave to apply again [See also NRCC/CL 9/1/4812]
