Summary of case: Case papers for NRCC/CL 9/1/5805 which states: There are three auctioneers in Scarborough and Harland has the largest business as an Auctioneer of personal property. ‘There is no doubt that had the local tribunal considered these cases during the critical days of Spring and Summer there would have been little justification for permitting wither the two brother Harland to remain in civil life. When the cases were considered, however, the national situation had considerably improved and the local tribunal were anxious to disturb existing commercial affairs as little as possible……As W E Harland he has for some years been a member of the Volunteer Force and taken an active part in the movement and there is no reason from a health point of view why he should not be able to take up some military service.’
