He has been passed Grade 2. He was born in Germany but came to this country in 1892 and after having obtained his Certificate of Discharge from all obligations as a German subject, he became naturalised as a British Subject on 15 September 1906. He married an English woman in 1902 and there are six children, all of whom have been brought up as British Subjects. Appellant has for 19 years been employed at the Ampleforth College, as Cook and Baker, and at present time is with the assistance of his son aged 15, attending to the whole of the Cooking and Baking for 20 persons. He applied to the Helmsley local tribunal on 25 October for further exemption, and is of the opinion his application was dismissed on the grounds of his being German born, but as he considers himself a British subject he is appealing for exemption, not to avoid the army, but to enable him to remain at home to maintain his wife and six children. He therefore humbly requesting that he be granted exemption, so long as he remains in his present employment, which he submits is of national importance, more especially as the College is partly an Officers Training Corps.
