In March 1919Whamond writes to the clerk of the North Riding Appeal tribunal asking to be released from his work on the small holding as there is a great demand for fish and his work in this area is increasing. The clerk replies that as the work is under the auspices of the Committee for Work of National Importance, Whamond should apply to them for exemption. A letter of 12 March 1918 from Mrs Whamond to the Clerk of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal stated that; my husband had communication from the Pelham Committee about a fortnight or three weeks since, stating that in future all communications had to be addressed to his tribunal as they had ceased their duties. Please let me know if my husband must still write to them. The clerk replies that the Chairman of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal states that no meetings of the Appeal Tribunal are now being held, but that, personally, he does not think the tribunal would raise any objection to your husband resuming the work which he was engaged in prior to his being ordered to do work of national importance.
