Summary of case: [Includes case papers for NRCC/CL 9/1/179] ‘I beg to state that I have a conscientious objection (not only to combatant service, but) to any form of military service. I believe war to be un-Christian and a member of the Society of Friends I wish to state my opposition to all war.’ On 28 March 1916 the North Riding Appeal Tribunal allowed Lodge’s appeal and granted absolute exemption on taking up some work of national importance. In 1918 this exemption was reviewed.
