Summary of case: Fletcher sought absolute & complete exemption. “As a Christian I cannot take part in war, nor can I undertake to do any work under conditions which will bring me under the Military Service Act.” Local tribunal granted absolute exemption on 14 Mar 1916. Military representative challenged this case and submitted an appeal to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal on grounds that Fletcher was most opposed to compulsory service.
