Summary of case: White had been an orderly with the Friends Ambulance Unit Hospital at Haxby Road, York. He left the unit on grounds of conscience. C A Herbert, the military representative, York appealed for a review of certificate of exemption. Local tribunal withdrew the certificate on 8 Mar 1917. North Riding Appeal Tribunal were dissatisfied with White’s replies to questions on 22 Mar 1917 and upheld withdrawal of the certificate. Adjourned the case for one month to ascertain nature of work applied for in Melton Mowbray. Appeal reheard and dismissed on 4 Jun 1917. White did not attend because he was in Cambridge for a meeting related to Serbian relief. Appeal to central tribunal dated 12 Jun 1917 submitted, but application refused on 5 April 1918
