I have been engaged in religious work for the past seven years.” “I cannot associate myself with any work which has as its object the destruction of humanity.” Local tribunal allowed exemption from combatant service only. His appeal to the North Riding appeal tribunal has a fuller statement, including “war fosters hatred” and notes his active engagement in the Brotherhood Movement for seven years. Also notes that another teacher applicant at same local tribunal was allowed to remain in his profession. Appeal made to central tribunal.
