In the appeal to the local tribunal, Alec Douglas, Lord Downes agent, stated that Green was necessary to support the shoots on which the estates finances relied. The recruiting officer objected and appealed to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal who dismissed this appeal upholding the decision of the local tribunal.
