Summary of Case: Bean appeals on grounds of personal hardship as his wife is an invalid needing constant care and has four children under nine. Was willing to go to munitions work (already on offer). Local tribunal had given him exemption to 7 Aug 1916. Also letters on file dated 3 Jul 1916 from employer Cargo Fleet Iron Company saying that due to a misunderstanding he was prevented from attending the appeal and that he is badged under the Ministry of Munitions, badge number Z32503. Reply of 5 Jul 1916 states that the appeal is now out of hands of the North Riding Appeal Tribunal and suggests that the Cargo Iron Fleet Company contacts the Recruiting Officer of the district in which Bean lives.
