Summary of Case: ‘Physical unfitness for general service owing to his absolute inability to walk more than very short distances due to deformed toes.’ The appeal was withdrawn as GH Mennell states in a letter to the North Riding Appeal Tribunal ;’ The fact is that the man [Press] went up to the Barracks with a view to joining the Artillery, and was told that he had not previously been before the medical board. Although this was, of course, a mistake he was subjected to a second examination and was certified as being fit for garrison duty only – abroad.’
