Summary of Case: Married with two young children. Aunt also dependent on him. Previously volunteered for Boer war but rejected. The military representative appealed against the decision of the local tribunal Conditional exemption on his remaining in his present occupation of Master painter etc. Serious hardship would ensue if the man called up for service owing to his exceptional business obligations. Riddell states that considering the nature of his business, which is not a necessity it is inexpedient that an exemption of the character of Conditional should be granted.
