Summary of case: That I am joint tenant of 3 farms at Sedbusk along with my father Matthew Bell aged 73 and my brother John Bell aged 36 years. These farms contain 147 aces and the gross rental is £200 per year. We own 220 sheep, 170 with lambs, and 40 head of cattle, 14 of which we milk. We have 50 acres of meadow grass- one third to mow by hand owing to the hilly nature of the land. That the above farms cannot possibly be properly managed and worked with less than 3 men. They could not be carried on at all by my brother alone seeing that my father is getting too old to do much active work. That it is in the national interest that the farming business should be properly carried on, and rendered and kept fully productive of food stuffs. That I have been engaged in farm work all my life and it is my proper business and that which I can best. That the applicant appeals for 3 months in which to save the hay harvest which is indispensable work, and to allow time for making all necessary and reasonable arrangements for the farm work to be carried on in absence and clear up matter connected with the business.
