Summary of Case: “My case to the local tribunal was the socialist one. I am entirely opposed to joining in the present horrible, needless, slaughter because as a socialist I recognise the foreigner as a brother in humanity and because I recognise that this war is the direct result of the absorbing greed for trade, territory, and prestige, which obsessed the leading nations for half-a-century. I cannot therefore accept the decision of the above [local] tribunal which refused consideration to this purely socialist point of view.”
