Summary of case: Samuel Boocock is farming 120 acres of land. Harry Boocock is the only horseman on the farm, also ploughman, sower, stacker and thatcher. The only other help is a 16 year old “lad”, who is looking after the 36 cattle, 19 pigs and 36 breeding sheep. The local tribunal states that Harry Boocock is one of eleven sons, only one of which is “serving his country and two at least are in farm work……It was also thought that the sparing of one son only out of eleven did not show any proper attempts to meet the country’s needs.”
